Karen Brown started her PhD at Loughborough University yesterday for a new project I’ll be supervising entitled “Out of School Youth Provision: An Analysis of Funding and Operational Resilience within the Sector. This studentship is part-funded by the Department of Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and co-supervised with Professor Darren Smith (Loughborough University) and Dr Paul Barber (DCMS).

I’m looking forward to seeing Karen’s project develop and important work on funding and operational resilience within the UK youth sector. Specifically, it will focus on “out of school youth provision” which includes, for example, local authority youth services, national uniformed youth organisations, and other voluntary community organisations. The project will address the following research question: “How is the youth sector funded and how resilient is the youth sector?” The focus on resilience includes funding but also organisational resilience i.e. workforce resilience; premises and facilities.

Welcome Karen!
